My 23rd Birthday

Yesterday, I turned a year older.  I am now 23 years old.  I thank God for giving me this year and hopefully next year, the next after the next year and many more years to enjoy the beauty of life being around with people who truly love me, to face more challenges and to taste more sweet and bitter of the ups and downs of life.  I thank my ma and pa for forming me and make me live here in this very wonderful world.  I thank my siblings for being obedient and respectful to me and also, for singing with me in the videoke last night. Of course, I thank the other half of my life, my husband. I thank him for everything: for his patience, for his understanding, and for his unfailing love and care towards me. I do love you so much baby.

My birthday celebration went well. It was just a small celebration but the presence of my family made it grand. I am just used to celebrating my birthday with Jesus. It is so save some penny with the preparation also. Lol.

Here is the highlight of my birthday:

December 22, 09 at 12:01 midnight:
Hubby came upstairs (I was in front my computer while talking to my family on the phone) with this little piece of chocolate cake with a lighted candle on singing a "happy birthday" song.

I cannot believe that my family stayed awake at midnight just to greet me "happy birthday". I was wondering what's special with the age 23?

These simple thoughts made me feel so special.

Special gifts I received:
22 not-so-hard spanking and the 23rd very hard spanking from hubby plus a pinch.

Birthday greetings from my blogging friends. Please accept my hearfelt thanks to all of you for making me feel so special. I love you all!

I know I am late and I know I hate this song but I felt like making fun with my hubby. Nope, he's not mad. He loves this actually.

I saw hubby kissing beers and gin
Underneath the living room ceiling last night
They didn't see me stepping
Down the stairs to have a look
They thought that I was busy
in my computer corner fast exchanging online talk.

Then I saw hubby kissing beers and gin again
Underneath the living room ceiling last night

Oh what a fun it would have been
If you had only seen
Hubby passed out on the couch after kissing beers and gin last night.

Yep, after few days of delaying, we finally made up our mind to put up and decorate our little Christmas tree. This is also the Christmas tree we used last year.  We put it in our bay window this time for all the neighbors to see it sparkling at night. The height of the bay window is just right for it, as you can see. Now, we feel the spirit of Christmas here in our little home. Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas to all my co-thieves out there. The questions today in Sunday Stealing sound familiar.  At first I thought I've encountered and answered the questions already. Well, I am not mistaken because I did answer it on Monday Mayhem. So, here are my answers.

Misa De Gallo or Simbang Gabi (Night Mass)

posted by Rechie on

I went to visit my parents and siblings yesterday and went to Church for Misa de Gallo or Night Mass with my mother.  The rest of our family members were not able to attend for some reason. I am so fond of Misa de Gallo even when I was a child.  I love the part when the mass is done because, in my hometown, it is when we eat the food preparation in the church.  Everday, the priest will announce the barangays or we call it "arks" to prepare foods for the churchgoers after mass. I know some places don't do it but we do.

For you to understand what Misa de Gallo is, here is a pasted note from wikipedia.
Traditionally, Christmas Day in the Philippines is ushered in by the nine-day dawn masses that start on December 16. Known as the Misa de Gallo (Roosters Mass) in the traditional Spanish and in Filipino as Simbang Gabi, or "Night Mass", this novena of Masses is the most important Filipino Christmas tradition.
These nine dawn Masses are also considered as a Novena by the Catholic and Aglipayan faithfuls. This refers to the Roman Catholic and Aglipayan practice of performing nine days of private or public devotion to obtain special graces.
In some parishes, the Simbang Gabi begins as early as four o'clock in the morning. Going to mass this early for nine consecutive days is meant to show the churchgoer's devotion and faith as well as to heighten anticipation for the Nativity of Jesus. In traditional Filipino belief, however, completing the novena is also supposed to mean that God would grant the devotee's special wish or favor.
After hearing Mass, Filipino families partake of traditional Philippine Christmastime delicacies, either during breakfast at home or immediately outside the church, where they are sold. Vendors offer a wealth of native delicacies, including bibingka (rice flour and egg based cake, cooked using coals on top of and under the pastry), puto bumbong (a purple sticky rice delicacy which is steamed in bamboo tubes, with brown sugar and shredded dried coconut meat served as condiments), salabat (hot ginger tea) and chokolate (thick Spanish cocoa). In some Aglipayan churches, after the mass everybody is invited to partake the "painit" (after mass snacks of delicacies with hot coffee or tsokolate) at the house of the sponsor of the mass.
In recent times, even the Evangelical Christians, and other independent Christian Churches have started holding services in the early mornings like the ones that are being done by the Catholics and some Mainline Protestant

Merry Christmas to all!

Couple’s Corner: Shopping Galore

Shopping is women’s favorite moment. It is when we, women use our knowledge in buying stuffs and at the same time use the knowledge in budgeting. It’s when we use our charm to the vendors to get discounts and save some pennies for another item.

I do love shopping and love window shopping a lot. Before I met Gary, I used to get items on sale it may be  foods or clothing (except for stuffs that I really, really like to have - Shoes and Bags) and getting more discounts from discounted stuffs. Thrifty, they call it. Well, I had not much money to buy stuffs I really wanted. With my meager salary, I rather use it all for foods. Living away from my family at 17 to find luck in a place I’ve never been, oh yeah, I got to know how to use my salary wisely or else, I’ll starve to death.

When I met Gary, I can say I was darn gracious with our first meeting because you know; first meeting is when men try to please girls. I sensed that he was trying to please me by being too generous to the extent of spoiling me. He thought I was “that kind” of girl who can easily be pleased with expensive things. Well, he was just a little bit right because for me, it’s not wise to buy expensive stuffs most of the time esp. if only for a purpose of bragging it. I mean it is ok to buy expensive stuffs if (1) you have lots of excess money in the world and you do not know where else you can use it, (2) it is useful and with good purpose. As for me, I buy stuffs from the heart; it may not be expensive but if I like it and it is useful enough, why not get it?

There was one time, hubby and I went shopping. He dragged me to this Levi’s store and asked me to take what I want. When I looked at the pants and shirts in there, I sensed no style at all other than the “glory of the Levi’s tag”. So I said, no and took a Lee Pipes jeans that cost 1000 something but with 25% discount. There was also one time, hubby and I were talking on yahoo messenger, and he sent me a link to the Victoria secret store online. I asked why. He told me to pick what I want and he will order it for me. I told him “So you are allowing me to walk on the street wearing only Victoria Secret lingerie and their two-piece under wears?” Yep, my undies cost only 20 pesos each and 300 pesos being the most expensive for brassieres. Who cares? They can't see it!

It is indeed unwise to buy something just for the sake of having it “the glory of the tag line”. It’s better to give the money you use for it to the street kids who have nothing to eat. If you can buy the "glory of the tag line" and give something to those who are in need, that would be better.

Malware Attack Maybe!

Early in the morning yesterday of around 3:30, I was freaking with what happened to my computer.  Everything on my computer screen was frozen for some reason I didn't know. Even my mouse. There was no way to shut the computer down properly because it was not letting me do it,  I didn't do anything for 30 minutes and waited for again another 30 minutes. Still everything's frozen.  What I did was switch the computer off directly to the UPS.  I hate doing it but I had to so I can restart the computer.  When I switched the computer back on, I was directed to a Startup Windows Fixer saying there is a problem with Windows. I followed the instructions of the computer but after doing numerous startup fixing, it still didn't work. It just let me do it over and over again yet nothing happened.

I was really freaking thinking my computer was totally crashed and can't be used again. Suddenly, the recovery disks popped in my head.  I inserted the CD and there I was starting the reformat. I was anxiously waiting for the result hoping I am doing it right. I was so happy that everything went well when the reformatting is done although everything on my drive C: the saved documents, PowerPoint presentation, the blogger layout and scrap layouts, the music are all gone.

Couple’s Corner: JEALOUSY

Jealousy with enough reason can be healthy but repetitive and out of reason can be a threat to a relationship and most of all to the jealous person’s life. It is something that should be taken care of because jealousy can be a sickness that only mental hospital can heal. Seriously, jealousy is a cancer, if you let it kill you.  (You can only find this quote here.)

There are some people that I know of having this kind of sickness. Of course, I will not type the names in here. I may say, I have a benign jealousy because I  took care of it before it got worst. I would be too hypocrite if I say I never get jealous. Hello, I am a human being. I guess, we all get jealous although we have our own way of dealing with it. I have my own way.

When I was in high school, I get jealous with my classmates who have new shoes, new bags, and brand new stuffs. I was even jealous with my spoiled brother back then he was getting new stuffs from our parents being the only son. That is materialistic jealousy. I was and sometimes I am jealous with people who were/are taller than me, those long legged chicks and breathtakingly beautiful and smart people. That is physical and mental jealousy, in short, insecurity.  And oh, the first time I joined "blogger", I was jealous with bloggers who can make beautiful customized layouts. I guess that is ability jealousy.

How did/do I deal my jealousy and insecurity? I just keep it and use it to get myself be motivated in life. It motivated me to get better, improve my talents and my entire self. My jealousy and insecurity to the people became admiration and inspiration. It made me realized that jealousy or insecurity can't be bad all the time  because I used it as a helpful tool to improve myself and discover my own unique qualities. I didn't  and don't plan to let it Kill Me.

When my husband and I met the first time, I got jealous with his ex girlfriend from Cebu. Every time I read her messages on hubby’s phone, it made me jealous. Why I read the messages in the first place anyway? Distrust to a partner that was which is a very bad thing. It was a mixture of jealousy and insecurity. God, being jealous and insecure is not easy, I tell you that. As much as I can, I am keeping my jealousy esp. if I see no reason but there were times jealousy getting in me intensely that I could not stop myself from asking “do you still love her” or “just come back to her, I guess you still love her”. I know I sounded so pathetic. For Christ sake gurl he’s with you, I kept telling myself that.

When we were engaged to be married, the jealousy with that Cebu girl was still there plus the jealousy with his work. There were times I felt like he was setting me aside because of his work when he couldn’t answer my calls at first ring and when he couldn’t replied right away to my messages. Sometimes I was thinking of him being with other girl at work. That was the reason of our fights most of the time. Later on, I realized it cannot do well for me and for our relationship. There should be trust for the relationship to work and of course, loyalty and faith. Recently, I was surprised when I learned that my husband’s workers at work know me because hubby had this picture of me displayed on his office table. I was like wow! Those jealousies of mine were of no use then. See, sometimes we are really so way out of line. Again, I didn't let jealousy Kill Me.

Now that we are married, there are no reasons for us to get jealous with each other. He very well know I love him dearly and I have no plan on doing something bad that can make him jealous because I definitely know how hard it is to be jealous. It’s a no joke feeling.  As for me, I don’t see any reason to get jealous so far. My husband is being a good husband to me 101%. With the love and care he is giving me, i couldn't ask for more. The only problem I have with him now is his drinking habit. Maybe I can say, I am jealous with his beer. Lol! I don’t want him drink because that’s when he's getting guts of voicing out his jealousy.

To sum it up, we are getting over with fights regarding jealousy but we both have a quote for each other:

Mine:
If you do something bad (cheat), don't let me catch you.

Hubby:
If you do something bad (cheat), I'll kick your butt.
